What’s on the Label: L-Citrulline/Citrulline Malate
If you’re like most nutrition/health conscious people, reading the labels on your supplements and vitamins is common practice. It is important to know what a product contains before you put it in or on your body. At Vegas Discount Nutrition, we recently had a customer ask about an ingredient he saw on the label of many of our pre-workouts that he was unfamiliar with. The ingredient was L-Citrulline or Citrulline Malate.
L-Citrulline is a non-essential amino, meaning it is produced within our bodies. It is an extremely common ingredient found in pre-workouts and also in food sources such as watermelon. L-Citrulline plays a significant role in nitric oxide production, your metabolism, and regulation. When nitric oxide levels are increased, you can experience many benefits such as improved oxygen and blood circulation, increased workout performance, and improved recovery rates post-exercise. When bonded to Malic Acid, L-Citrulline becomes Citrulline Malate. This form further increases the L-Citrulline’s use for athletic performance and energy production.
Both L-Citrulline and Citrulline Malate can be found in pre-workouts such as Pre-Kaged by Kaged Muscle, Woke AF by DAS Labs, and Vasoblitz by Build Fast Formulas. If you are looking to buy products with the ingredients by themselves, companies such as Allmax, Nutrakey, and Nutrabio are highly recommended. These all can be found at your local Vegas Discount Nutrition Superstore. If you’d like to learn more about these ingredients or if you have a question of your own, stop into any one of our stores and speak with our full staff of NAFC Certified Nutrition Coaches today.
